MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
People are dying from preventable diseases or suffering from permanent disability because of their inability to access equitable and affordable healthcare services, whether it be due to poverty or because they are underinsured. Globally, individuals living with chronic illnesses are forced to choose between paying for life-saving treatments or their basic necessities like food, housing, and utilities – decisions no one should have to make.
The foundation created a medical assistance program aimed at providing financial assistance to those suffering from chronic illnesses, such as cancer or kidney failure. We partner with healthcare providers in underprivileged communities to identify individuals who would benefit from our program. Candidates are referred to our foundation and encouraged to apply for assistance (we also accept self-referrals). Every application is screened for qualification – i.e., applicants must demonstrate financial need and provide proof of medical diagnosis. If approved, the foundation assumes the responsibility of partial or full treatment costs. Medical bills are paid directly to the treating provider; the foundation does not directly release funds to beneficiaries. Historical assistance prioritized communities in Nigeria, but we are expanding our reach.
"Living with a chronic illness like asthma or cancer is exhausting, frightening, and painful. Add in the stress of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on medications each month—even with insurance—it can be overwhelming. People may cut pills in half, skip meals or housing payments, or declare bankruptcy. This situation is all too common—an estimated 29 million Americans are underinsured, and over 60% of all bankruptcies in the US are related to medical expenses."

COMMUNITY HEALTH ADVANCEMENT
Preventative care can help save many lives, but many health centers lack modern resources to perform standard diagnostic testing. We partner with local institutions to establish functioning diagnostic and treatment centers, partially or fully funded by the foundation. We also conduct community outreach and educational campaigns to promote awareness about early detection and preventative practices to improve community health outcomes.
At this time, the community health advancement initiative prioritizes the underserved communities of Nigeria and strives to improve the quality of healthcare available to Nigerian residents.
Our current partners are:- University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria
EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
The empowerment program aims to increase access to educational and economic opportunities to enable beneficiaries to overcome financial hardship. We provide grants, as well as mentorship, to individuals facing challenges with financing their educational programs or small businesses to help them reach their full potential.
The application is open to candidates in Africa and the U.S. who meet the criteria for financial hardship and can provide all requested information in the application form. All applications are screened for qualification, and grants are awarded based on the board’s approval. Awardees will be required to comply with post-award monitoring and reporting requirements.
